Artist Spotlight: Rakeem
Rakeem is a performing artist, photographer, and overall internet sensation. His career skyrocketed after he debuted his 2016 music video “Sippin’ on Lacroix," which helped translate his love for the drink in the most entertaining and ingenious manner seen to date.
If there's one thing I took away from the video, it would definitely be that he has the whole "Live La Croix" thing down pat.
"When you're sippin' on LaCroix, you know it brings you joy" is a phrase that will be ringing in your head, long after the music video ends.
Aside from the music video, he's appeared in numerous outlets such as Vice magazine, PaperMag and starred in a documentary called “We Antigone."
What inspired you to make your Sippin on La Croix music video? What was the process of making it? La Croix water inspired me. I took one sip and the rest was history. As far as the process, well first off I was homeless and living with my partner at the time (now ex) and was working on some new material. I wrote the song, recorded it and then me and my ex were set to film it but we got into a fight so I ended up filming it all myself! Haha!
Did you think it would get such a huge response? Right now it’s at 100k+ views on YouTube. I had no idea it would take off, but I'm not pressed about it! 100k+ people have viewed me! Whoa! Can you believe it?
What does Live La Croix mean to you?
Live La Croix means you are living your best life. Amamay! (MaMa in pig latin)
What’s your favorite La Croix drink and why?
My favorite! I'll give you my top five in no particular order: Lemon, Passion Fruit, Pamplemousse, Lime , and Tangerine.
