Artist Spotlight: Sarah Kim
Sarah Kim is a graphic designer and illustrator from Maryland and graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art in 2014. She previously worked as a brand designer at Abercrombie & Fitch. Now she’s a full-time freelance graphic designer under Sarah Kim Designer, where she does web design, print/publication design and works with overall branding and identity for companies. Recently, Kim did an amazing graphic design piece incorporating—you guessed it, our favorite bubbly drink.
What was the inspiration behind your La Croix piece?
The La Croix piece was inspired by a weekly lettering challenge from the lettering queen, Lauren Hom. For week 3, she announced that the assignment was to take the overused inspirational quote “Live, Love, Laugh” and change “Laugh” to another “L” word to make it weird, unexpected, and unique. I had been going through so many cans of La Croix while designing so it seemed fitting for this assignment. Also, I accidentally swapped out "Love" instead of "Laugh" but I think it works either way!
In what ways do you believe La Croix appeals to artsy millennials?
I'm pretty sure the colorful branding of the La Croix products draw in the artsy millennials. Plus, it's unsweetened and carries zero calories and sodium which makes it guilt-free when we need a good zing to refresh us while sitting in front of the computer all day!
Do you have more La Croix inspired pieces in the works?
This seemed like a crowd favorite on Instagram, so I can for sure see myself making more pieces that either relate to La Croix or other popular snacks!
What's your favorite La Croix drink?
I've tried a handful of their flavors, but I can't seem to decide between Grapefruit and Blackberry Cucumber!
Any other reasons you love La Croix?
It's so hard to stay hydrated and refreshed while running around with a busy schedule. Also, water as itself has gotten a bit boring for me and I'm not very into soda or juice. So thank goodness La Croix is around! The different flavors definitely help me take in more of the good old H20.
